Nigerian Army calls for out of court settlement on the case of An Innocent Lady brutalized by Soldiers In Ikorodu.

In March of 2017, Ruth Orji was severely brutalized by some soldiers attached to 174 battalion of Nigerian Army Ikorodu Lagos state--an attack that occurred in broad daylight while bystanders watched as the helpless woman cried for help.

According to the Facebook user that initially shared the story, Miz Orji allegedly "had challenged one of the soldiers for slapping her brother and the angry military men reportedly descended on her like hungry lions, giving her the beating of her life".

As the cruelty continued, the wicked men warned the spectator not to try defending the victim. They also threatened to shoot anyone who may try to disobey their orders. they told the victim that even if they choose to kill her that no one would question them about  her murder

After the brutal attack, there was a public outcry for justice from the victim and other concerned Nigerians. As God would have it, a Non-Governmental Organisation picked up her case and filed a legal paper at the Federal High Court against the Nigerian Army. The NGO known as Joint Legal Action Aids based in Akuwonjo Lagos, demanded for a N250m compensation for the brutality meted on the victim.

On Tuesday, June 14, "General Counsel of the aforementioned NGO, Kingsley Ughe released a statement saying that the Army High Command called for out-of-court settlement a few days ago. The Army requested that the meeting should take place at the 9 Brigade Headquarters at Ikeja but the NGO insisted that the meeting be held at its office at Akowonjo, Lagos.

During the meeting that took place on Tuesday, the Army apologized for the conduct of Major S.U.Obongha for the brutal assault on JLAA member, Ruth Orji. Major S.U. Obongha himself tendered unreserved apology to the victim.
Although the amount to be paid to the lady has not been reached at the time the video was published, there is hope that the two parties would reach an agreement on the amount to be given to Miz Ruth.

My Take:

This so terrible guys
it's about time something permanent is done concerning the level of brutality members of Nigerian military are unleashing on innocent civilians. This is not the first time soldiers have done this. the majority of these soldiers are drunk with power, unfortunately, they do not know how to positively channel that power to the benefit of the citizens, sadly they chose to constantly attack people who have done nothing to them. Hopefully, after coughing out millions of naira for compensation, those in command would advise their boys better.
