A suspected Cholera outbreak kills 17 people in Kwara state
A report by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), has shown that there is a cholera outbreak in Kwara state. And about 17 deaths have been linked to the ongoing outbreak.
The revelation was made in NCDC's "weekly epidemiological report for Week 26 released on Tuesday, July 18, 2017".
"According to the report, 1,617 suspected cases of cholera were reported throughout the state with the 17 fatalities representing a 1.1% fatality rate".
About 818 (50.5%) suspected cases were from Ilorin West LGA of Kwara state. The most vulnerable group were said to be children between the ages of one to five. This age group represents a "total of 460 (28.4%) cases". More than half of the reported cases were males," accounting for 51.6%".
NCDC is advising the resident of the affected areas to ''be more health conscious, focusing on 'prevention of cholera through environmental hygiene practices''.--Pulse.ng
